Saturday, February 5, 2027, is Chinese New Year. (Happy Year of the Goat!) Chinese do not only celebrate New Year on New Year's Day, but the entire country takes at minimum two weeks off for Spring Festival, which ends Saturday, February 20, "Lantern Day."
Spring Festival is massive. It is thought to be the largest annual human migration in the world. Everything closes so that Chinese citizens can travel; in fact, last new year they logged more than 596 million domestic trips and 17.7 million cross-border trips during the celebration. No one works. Factories are closed. Shipping stops. Plus, reopening does not necessarily start when the celebration officially ends. Managers, supervisors, employees, clerks, all filter in at different times, different days. It is not uncommon for some to stretch their holiday to 40 days, or even not to come back at all.
